Girls are weird

I sit here and scratch the last bit of scab off my elbow; it’s irritating me as it rubs on my Great Auntie Joan’s antique writing desk. It was quite a substantial roastie actually; a nice deep burgundy rose colour and I acquired it when clobbering my elbow climbing ‘Xena’ (19) during the night climbing session at the Roc Rally in Waterval Boven a couple weeks back. Crikey it was eina, but I tried not to moan about it lest I sounded like a…girl? Continue reading

Balls of Steel

Take 11 minutes out of your day to reassess what scary really means. Jeezlaaik.

Joey Kinder and Colette McInerney

So, as most of the climbing community in South Africa know, we had Team America travelling round our wintery country the last couple of weeks. Team America, as they were fondly dubbed, comprise Joey Kinder and Colette McInerney.

I need to start hanging off ropes…

11.06.2011

This time it wasn’t a Thursday, it was a Saturday, so I finally was able to start taking some climbing pics as other people were at the crag! It was a really good day all round with Faye Brouard and Andrew Scott working on their projects at the new sector. Continue reading

All he needed was like, snow

Today Roger Nattrass and I headed off to Umgeni with snow all over the peaks of the lower midlands. I must say it always feel pretty surreal to live in Africa and have snow just a wee drive away! It boggles my mind, but I like it. Surprisingly it wasn’t that cold at Umgeni, and we had a really good day.

All it took was this… Continue reading

The Cold Ninja

I went on a berg hike with my Active Escapes buddies Sarah, Matt and mountain guide Carlos Gonzalez. We met up with a bunch of other people, but this particularly extreme ‘fun’ activity took place before we found the others at Zulu cave later in the day. Continue reading

It’s about the vibe

I don’t want to harp on about Roger Nattrass, but since he’s the dude I climb with most regularly he is the dude who (unfortunately for him) will get splashed on my blog a lot. Roger is well known personality in South African climbing, and most of you will know him already. But for those who don’t here is a cool interview from www.climb.co.za written in 2009 by Justin Lawson. It’s a good read!

Thursday Climbing with Roger

Last week my computer crashed just as I was beginning to upload this blog, so sorry it’s a wee bit late. On Thursdays I go climbing with Roger Nattrass, he’s scheduled his work and life so that he can climb every Thursday, and for people like me who work from home (and late at night) it’s a brilliant option for getting some quality time on the rock! Raspberry fizzy drink lifestyle

This little girl was at the PMB gymnastics club while her Mom was coaching. She didn’t stop playing the entire time that my friend and I were climbing on the High Altitude wall. Continue reading

Rainclouds can be good high up

Harrismith is situated in the Freestate, just at the top of Van Reenens Pass. The landscape is comprised of mesas and buttes, looking very much like ginormous cakes rising out of the farmlands as supreme rocky cakes. A sponge of yellowey orange sandstone, streaked with black capped with a thick lashing of volcanic basalt. Climbing the sides of these cakes, one steep foot step at a time, affords views that will boggle your wee city-stained mind. Continue reading
